Teased for Being Young at Heart

Hi P.I.M PALS,

Welcome to today’s blog post about being teased for being young at heart.

Firstly, what does it mean to be young at heart, or in other words, a child at heart? To be young at heart means to have childlike qualities, regardless of one’s older age.

The phrase young at heart generally refers to people who are older than teenagers and young adults. For example, a grandmother in her 60s who still likes to collect dolls and stuffed animals would be considered young at heart. Or, a parent who still enjoys going to carnivals and theme parks would also be considered young at heart.

However, anyone can be young at heart!

For instance, I am a teenage girl becoming a young adult now, and already I have been considered to be young at heart because of how I look and how I carry myself. I like to keep things simple and light-hearted.

I like wearing bows in my hair, even though most of the teenage girls my age grew out of wearing them. I also carried a bunny-shaped bag with me everywhere while skipping to class. 🐰 🎀

I liked to express my creativity by decorating the classrooms for the holidays and seasons, whereas others felt that was too childish.

I like putting sprinkles on my ice cream, which reminds me of a time when I went on a school trip, and kids laughed at me for getting sprinkles on my ice cream. Their faces were like, Did she seriously get sprinkles? Isn’t she too old for that? They felt it was childish of me to have sprinkles on my ice cream, but I did not care what they thought! Frankly, they were immature to even think that way, and besides, who wants to eat a plain and boring ice cream cone! I am an artist who loves the simple things in life, and in this crazy world we live in, we all could enjoy some sprinkles from time to time.🍦

To me, if you grow out of something because you feel that you are too old for it, that is fine. But that does not mean you should tease, put down, or bully someone else for still enjoying something you think is “childish” for their age. And going as far as rallying up other people to laugh with you and embarrass the person about it is just mean, unnecessary, and immature.

Just a few days ago, I went on the swings as a young adult, and it was so much fun. I remembered how much fun I had on the swings as a little girl. Though the concept of being on a swing may seem childish to some people, you have adults who still like to do those kinds of things and there is nothing wrong with that.

Therefore, do not allow people to rob your innocence and the joy of being a kid even when you are an adult.

But most importantly, understand that God loves it when you are innocent like a child, no matter how old you are. He calls us to be childlike.

For instance, here are three scripture verses that tell us that Jesus wants us to come as a child.

1 Corinthians 14:20

“Be innocent as babies when it comes to things of evil, but wise and mature as adults when it comes to things of God.”

Matthew 18:2-4

“He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. And He said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 19:14

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

As far as God is concerned, people who are mature as an adult and innocent like a child are the greatest in all of His kingdom. You can be innocent yet not gullible; young at heart, but mature and full of Godly wisdom. Therefore, let your heart enjoy things that seem “childish” to others, even if they were to tease you. Because it just means that you are young at heart, which is what God calls us to be.

So, are you young at heart?

Have you ever been teased for liking childlike things? If so, how did you feel?

Do you think it is possible to be mature as an adult and innocent as a child?

I hope you found this post to be valuable, and if it resonated with you, I would love to hear your thoughts.
