Valentine’s Day is a day we celebrate the people we love and embrace the people who love us. Unfortunately, there are many people who may not or feel like they donβt have people to love and people who love them. For those of you like this, I want to point you to Jesus and remind you that He loves you deeply. If you feel lonely this Valentineβs Day (or any day for that matter), run to Jesusβs open arms and live in His love.
1 John 4:16(NIV) states, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
I hope that wherever you are in the world, you are safe and healthy and enjoying the start of the new year. β¨

The beginning of the new year is a grand event celebrated by almost everyone. But for some, this event can breed uncertainty amongst those who are anxious about what might take place during the new year. During multiple New Yearβs celebrations, I can recall being concerned about the trials and troubles I or my family might experience during the year. Additionally, as many of you could relate, my concern for the upcoming year was further heightened this past New Yearβs by the suffering I endured during 2022. Specifically, all of the fear, anxiety, physical discomfort, etc., that I experienced in 2022 put me in a constant struggle to find even the smallest amount of peace within myself.
Despite these concerns, however, on the morning of New Yearβs Eve, I felt a strong sense of peace, while in my room. I found myself saying in my head, “Wow, I feel so peaceful, where is this feeling of peace coming from?β I wasnβt looking at anything that could bring me this level of peace, and I didnβt hear any good news or do any fun or peaceful activities such as reading or drinking tea. After all, I had just woken up from sleeping! However, it did not take me long to know that this βwaveβ of indescribable peace didnβt come out of nowhere, but instead came from God.
God entered my room right after I woke up and flooded me with His peaceful presence. This was even before I read my daily devotions, play worship music, or even pray to Him. The first thing He wanted me to do to start my day was to feel the peace He was giving me. And as the scriptures say, that peace truly surpassed all of my understanding (Philippians 4:7 (NIV)).
When I experienced the peace of God in my room, I just decided to sit and immerse myself in it. I did not look at anything, read anything, or even play praise and worship music in the background. It was just me and God, and I instantly went into prayer, thanking Him for this incredible feeling of peace that assured me that He is with me throughout my suffering and doubt. God also told me that my family and I will have a peaceful year and that He will always be with us and protect us from harm and danger.
While praying to Him and thanking Him, I felt like He began to give me instructions and His Will for me for the new year. He gave me instructions about every one of my desires and plans for the new year which gave me a greater sense of peace.
God gave me instruction, not necessarily by speaking directly to me, but through my thoughts. At first, this caused me to question the thoughts I was having on whether they were instructions from God or just my thoughts. However, thanks to wisdom from God, given to me through my father, I was reassured that the thoughts I had while feeling Godβs peaceful presence were His instructions, as those thoughts aligned with the Word of God, which holds Godβs Will and His instruction. Upon learning this, I was able to confidently heed the Lordβs instructions and become encouraged in Him, just as David did during a time of great distress according to 1 Samuel 30:6 (KJV).
Once I shared this experience with my family, they also became encouraged. Additionally, we all became further resolved in trusting in Godβs promises for the new year, because at the end of the day, He is all-knowing and He sees all, including that which we donβt know or see ourselves.
These are also the reasons why my family and I are starting 2023 with Proverbs 16:3 (NIV), which says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plansβ. Since God knows everything, including our plans for 2023 and beyond, that means He also knows the outcome of each of our plans. This also means that He knows which plans will prove to be fruitful and which wonβt. And so, by committing our plans to Him, He will evaluate each plan and determine what plans we should pursue, or in other words, align with His Will.
How this may apply to you, the reader is through a common tradition that many people participate in at the start of each new year: New Yearβs resolutions. Many people at the beginning of a new year make βresolutionsβ or firm decisions to do something that are usually impactful to their own lives or others. Because the new year is in many ways symbolic of a new start, it can serve as a motivator for some people to accomplish certain goals within the upcoming year. This motivation can be pretty strong, and I have seen many accomplish their goals fueled by the start of the new year. However, as almost everybody knows, more often than not people fail to accomplish or maintain their New Yearβs resolutions. There are many reasons why people fail to maintain their resolutions, but all of them can be simplified with the following: The adrenaline of the New Year is not a strong enough foundation to build your goals.
While there is nothing wrong with making New Year resolutions or being motivated by the new year to do something, the adrenaline of the new year can easily and quickly dissipate, especially when considering the small amount of patience and determination people can have when they donβt accomplish their goals right away. Additionally, when filled with the excitement of the new year, many people rashly create plans/resolutions for the year that ultimately prove to be reckless, not achievable, unrealistic, and a waste of time. My point is that although New Yearβs resolutions can be great and even feasible, solely creating plans for the year with the sole motivation and foundation being the New Year is not the best strategy.
This is why I say that when creating your plans for the new year, you should do what Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) says to do and commit your plans to God. Compared to the beginning of the new year, God is a better foundation where you can lay your plans, because He knows all and, therefore, knows which plans you should pursue and how you should pursue them.
Additionally, Proverbs 16:9 (NIV) says, “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” While this verse does acknowledge the path that we want to take as humans, it also tells us that God is the one who ultimately determines and knows the best course of action we should take and how we should live. That is why you can trust that when you commit your plans to God, He will give you the necessary guidance and instruction and that if you heed His instruction and allow Him to guide you, you will be walking the right path. After all, as it says in Proverbs 16:20 (NIV), “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.”
So, reader, I encourage you today to go to God and commit to Him your plans. Give Him all of your bright ideas, thoughts, plans, desires, and dreams, and He will guide you on the path you should take. Just take it as if you were going to someone for advice, except that this βsomeoneβ is the all-knowing, all-powerful, and benevolent God who knows whatβs best for you.
And as I talked about earlier, if, like me, you are seeking peace for 2023 and the years to come, then go to God and ask Him to give you peace beyond all understanding. There are many people out in the world evoking God during the new year, and as a result, God is moving. So I can say with confidence that if you go to Him for peace, He will provide. In Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV), Jesus says, βCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.β
Even during times of trouble and distress, be confident in knowing that when you pray to God, He will guard your heart and mind and fill you with peace. And along with Godβs grace, by aligning your thoughts, words, and actions with Godβs Word, you can further receive Godβs gift of peace this year, and for all the years to follow.
And so, to close out, I say to all who read this post, Happy New Year and, as Romans 15:33 (NIV) says, βThe God of peace be with you all. Amen.β β¨
So, reader, do you make New Yearβs resolutions? If so, are you committing them to God?

I hope that you are having a lovely Christmas day today filled with love, joy, and peace. π
Over the years of celebrating Christmas, I have seen how much I have changed. When I was a little girl, I looked forward to receiving gifts. Now that I have gotten older, I look forward to giving gifts, as giving in itself is a gift. When I give gifts to my family and friends, I love seeing their joyous reactions and surprised expressions! To me, giving gifts is a way I can express my love to the people I care about. π
Because of this, I am very thankful to God for giving all of us the greatest gift of them all: salvation through Jesus Christ. Salvation is what Christmas is all about. It was a gift made for all mankind who was plagued by sin and suffering. It is a gift that cannot be earned by any amount of money or any deed but was freely given through the birth, life, and sacrifice of Christ. And so, for all of us plagued by sin, and for those who are broken, downhearted, and lonely, we have been saved by grace. All we have to do is go to Jesus, recognize Him as our Savior and receive His gift of salvation. β¨
According to Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV), Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
This is what Jesus is saying to you, reader. If you are burdened by your sins and life’s struggles, then turn to Jesus. He will give you the comfort and relief you need. Our souls and minds can be full of troubles in this life, and there is so much trial and tribulation. However, know that God will never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV), and He will give you joy and peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 NIV).Β
So, this Christmas, as you give and receive gifts to and from those you love, remember that we were all given the greatest gift, Jesus Christ, who brought salvation to all mankind. You do not need to buy it, nor work for it. All you have to do is go to Jesus and simply receive it. β¨

In celebration of the holiday, I want to use this post as an opportunity to thank God for the things He has done in my life as well as all of our lives. β¨
Firstly, I want to thank God for His patience and long suffering. For more than a year, I have been struggling with anxiety and many stress-related issues due to a tragic event. This struggle has plagued me with a daily fear of losing my life and a crippling uncertainty about my own future. Most importantly, my struggle with anxiety and fear created a rift between God and myself, as my struggles caused me to question His goodness and, oftentimes, blame Him for my suffering. However, even in those times when I casted blame and frustration, God had patience with me and reassured me that He heard my cries and was listening to my prayers. Despite my constant doubt, He consistently promised me healing and deliverance from anxiety and fear.
And on those promises, God did keep! This is why I also want to thank God for his divine healing and deliverance. A few days ago, my family and I fasted and prayed over my condition, and God revealed that my anxiety was sourced from a spirit of fear that has been attacking me since last year. In other words, this was a spiritual attack from Satan, which manifested into physical ailments that brought upon additional fear and discomfort even during the happiest or most peaceful times. It was also revealed that the purpose of this attack was to create distrust between God and myself, which would eventually lead to hate for God. However, this demonic plot was thwarted by God, Who ultimately cast out the demonic spirit of fear after we prayed to God for deliverance. As of now, I can confidently say that I have been delivered, as I no longer fear for my life and many of my stress-related ailments have been alleviated.
Lastly, I would like to thank God for the guidance and love that He gives us. Throughout my struggle with anxiety, I wandered in uncertainty as I searched for answers to my issue. Similar to a maze, while desperately searching for a way out of my struggles, I often came across multiple dead-ends that further fed my hopelessness.
However, God consistently gave me guidance that has helped put me back on the right path that led to my eventual deliverance. Furthermore, even after delivering me from my struggles, God gave me confirmation of my deliverance. This confirmation came in the form of a dream, in which I crushed the head of a snake with my heel as it was chasing me. This dream was symbolic of Genesis 3:15, where God curses the serpent for deceiving Eve and foretells the defeat of the devil by Jesus Christ, Who, through His sacrifice on the cross, has crushed the devil’s head. Thanks to the interpretation of the dream from my father, I understood that I was already freed from Satan’s attacks and deception through the power of Jesus Christ, Who gave up His life so I could live mine in His name and under His protection. So now, I can say for certain that I am no longer wandering aimlessly while searching for answers, and instead, I am walking in my deliverance down a path guided by God Who is my guiding light.

My struggle with anxiety has taught me a lot, including what it means to trust God during and despite my struggles and suffering. As I stated before, my suffering hurt my relationship with God. So even though I am free from my suffering, I must remedy my relationship with God and learn what it means to trust in Him wholeheartedly again. However, I can not do this by myself, which is why I am thankful for God’s love and guidance that He is giving me to help rebuild my trust in Him.
Overall, I am very thankful for everything God has done for me during my darkest and brightest times. I am also thankful for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, Who by His blood, has not only cleansed me of my suffering and pain, but of my sins and shortcomings, and has granted me a new life. Additionally, I am thankful for the many other ways He has blessed me, such as with a loving family that has helped me throughout my struggles, this blog, and another Thanksgiving to celebrate all that we ought to be grateful for.
So reader, if there is anything I want you to take away from this post, it’s to remember to be grateful for all the ways God has blessed you. This includes even the simplest things in life that we often take for granted, such as good health, a home, food, family, breathing, etc. But don’t just thank Him for material things, but also for the love, mercy, and patience He has shown us, as well as His wisdom and guidance. And for those who may be struggling with something like I did, I urge you today to turn to God in the midst of your sorrows and trust that Jesus has overcome your suffering through His sacrifice and has delivered you from your suffering and your sins!
π

Today, I am introducing my first-ever series on my blog, P.I.M & PINK, called “Prove it to Yourself.”
Design by Selene Washington
In this series, I take you with me on my six-week journey of learning to ice skate and play tennis. βΈ πΎ
This series consists of six blog posts, each documenting both an ice skating lesson and a tennis lesson.
What inspired me to create this series was after I had signed up for ice skating lessons and tennis lessons, which are two things I have always wanted to do since I was a little girl. π
What made me choose the title, “Prove it to Yourself”, for this series was a self-talk I had one day in my room while doing ballet. During this self-talk, I came to the realization that I want to prove to myself that I can do anything my heart desires to do, no matter how old I am or how “late” I am starting.
I used to think that I needed to prove to others that I can do something, which can be a source of motivation. But as someone who struggles a bit with comparing myself to others, I realized trying to prove myself to others will do me more harm than good. Therefore, I decided to pursue my goals with the motivation to prove to myself that I can accomplish what I set my mind to do.
The one who guided me to this new mindset was God. He spoke to me during my self-talk and helped me overcome my doubt towards pursuing my interests. I could not help but feel so thankful and emotional that God would take the time to speak to me. Even more so, His words were timely because, unbeknown to me, I would later sign up for ice skating lessons and tennis lessons.
I did ice skating only once in my life, and it was really difficult, and I have not played tennis in a long time. Given these concerns, I was hesitant at first to sign up for ice skating lessons and tennis lessons. π
But then I reminded myself about the conversation I had with God and those doubts were alleviated. I began to see ice skating lessons and tennis lessons as perfect opportunities to prove to myself that I can do what I am interested in. Also, I was encouraged to start these lessons.
Perhaps, reader, you have started to think about that thing you have always wanted to do. If so, stop wishing you had learned it earlier in life if that is what you are doing. It is better late than never, as they say.
For example, if you desire to learn piano, start playing those keys, no matter how bad it sounds at first. You’ll get there! πΉ
Or, maybe you have always wanted to plant a garden. If so, go out to the store, buy some seeds, and just start. It all begins with taking that first step. π±
Whatever it is that you desire to do, I encourage you to start now. β¨
However, keep in mind, reader, that whatever you decide to do can impact other areas of your life, whether it is positive or negative. For example, I believe that ice skating will motivate me to pursue other interests.
For some people, this is not a big deal, but for me, it is. I like to see ice skating lessons and tennis lessons as opportunities to expand and grow, and that is what I love… the feeling that I am growing. π±
I am also very excited to see how God is going to use this experience for His glory, for He is the one who put these desires in my heart in the first place. β¨
So, reader, hereβs a question: Are you trying to prove something? If yes, is it to yourself or someone else?
Galatians 6:4 (KJV) says, “But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
βΈ
The next blog post will be Day 1 of the “Prove it to Yourself ” series. I encourage you to subscribe because I would love for you to continue with me on this journey. Thank you so much for reading! ππβ¨

I am celebrating my two-year anniversary (also known as “blogiversary”) of my blog, P.I.M & PINK! π€
I did not celebrate my one-year blogiversary in 2021 because I was still an infant blogger who was just focusing on building my blog. π
It all began in high school when I had the idea of starting a blog. β¨
One day, my father said that I should start a blog, and I looked at him with a smile and said, “Really, you think so?” π
As time went by, I gave it more and more thought, and eventually, I came to really like the idea of starting a blog.
So, one day, while talking with my parents, the name of my blog, “P.I.M & PINK,” was born. My mother came up with it, and I thought that it was so cute! π
All my life, I have always been passionate about protecting a childβs Purity, Innocence, and Modesty, which is what inspired the acronym, “P.I.M.” They have become three important values in my life. π€
The word, “PINK,” simply represents the fact that I have always loved pink and associated the color with soft and sweet qualities like purity, innocence, and modesty. π₯°
Once my family and I agreed on the name for my blog, I began visualizing and writing out blog post ideas. I watched videos, read articles about blogging, and found other bloggers on social media for inspiration. Eventually, I started to look at web hosting services for my blog. π βπΌ π»
On September 20, 2020, I finally decided to join WordPress.com and create my blog. However, I did not make my blog public and publish my first blog post until August 22, 2021. β¨
I spent the majority of my time in 2020 and early/mid-2021 designing my blog and writing my first set of blog posts.
In July 2021, I designed the official logo for my blog, P.I.M & PINK. The pink clam and the pearl symbolize my belief that we are all like pearls inside of a clam, pure and precious, but we always have to defend ourselves from anything that tries to corrupt, defile, or destroy us. π€
On August 22, 2021, I launched my blog publicly and published my first post called, “Welcome to P.I.M & PINK!” π
I am very thankful to God, my family, and friends who have been part of my blogging journey since the very beginning. β¨
Firstly, I want to thank God Who gave me life and the capability to even start my blog in the first place. God put this blog on my heart, and I believe that it is all part of His plan and purpose for me. Blogging has become a source of joy, passion, and healing for me, especially when I was going through a difficult time. I almost did not publish on my blogiversary date. However, I did not let my circumstance keep me from doing God’s will. π
Secondly, I want to thank my family. β¨
Father, thank you for being the first to encourage me to start a blog in the first place and introducing me to blogging courses and information that helped me properly set up my blog. π
Mother, thank you so much for taking the time to help me edit and refine my posts and for sharing my blog with the world. You were the first to insist on helping me with editing since my very first post. π
Brother, thank you so much for always encouraging me and listening to my ideas and thoughts. You always give me helpful feedback. π
Sister, thank you so much for sharing my blog with the world. Also, thank you for my little nephew who inspires me. π
I also want to thank my grandparents who have given me wisdom and supported me. π
I am thankful for my aunts and my godmothers who believe in me and have always encouraged me. π
Thirdly, I want to thank my friends who are supportive and have shared my blog with others. π
Overall, I want to thank all of my readers, who I refer to as “P.I.M PALS,” which stands for pure, innocent, and modest pals. Thank you so much for all of your love and support. I sincerely and wholeheartedly appreciate all of you. ππ
I cannot believe that my posts have already reached people from around the world since the beginning, despite still being a new blog. I am happy to be creating content for all of you that you resonate with and feel encouraged by, for it is truly my heart’s desire to do so. I believe that God’s plan was for me to start this blog not only to help me but to inspire or encourage YOU. β¨
With that being said, I wanted to share with you this scripture verse:
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) which says, “For we are Godβs handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Welcome to today’s blog post about how there is beauty at the end of the storm.
In the summertime, there was a thunderstorm that occurred. β
After the thunderstorm, pretty pastel-colored skies were born! They were pink, purple, and blue.
Here are the pictures I took of them. π· π
It went from dark and stormy skies…

From this transformation, I am reminded that we all go through storms in life. However, just as the storm passes and the skies become clear at the end of the storm, God will bring you through life’s storms, and He will make your path and vision clear so that you can see the beauty of His works and what He has done for you. β¨
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Therefore, reader, do not be afraid! The storms may be raging, but beauty comes thereafter. So, anchor your soul in Christ, and trust that God will bring you ashore to the better and more beautiful place He has destined for you. π

Welcome to today’s blog post about the misconceptions of modesty.
Throughout my school life, I was in a class where there was always tension whenever the topic of modesty came up.
Oftentimes, the teacher would start the discussion and would encourage the girls in my class to dress modestly. The girls in my class usually became very defensive in these discussions.
In many of their responses, my class would make multiple sarcastic comments about modesty and “modest fashion”, similar to the following:
“I’m sorry, but I’m not trying to look like an Amish person.”
“I don’t want to come to school dressed like a nun, sorry if that’s immodest.”
“I am going to look like my grandma.”
“Hey guys, I should come in wearing a hijab!”
As these statements were being made, everyone in the class would laugh and agree with each other.
In many places, and especially all over social media, I have seen these types of comments being made by those who dislike modest fashion and towards those who encourage it. This is because “immodest fashion” is typically what gets more attention and is more widely accepted for its many appeals.
Immodest fashion is very popular because it is promoted as a form of empowerment for many girls and women. Nowadays, people are encouraged to wear what they want as a way to fully and freely express themselves. Immodest fashion tends to align with this more than modest fashion, as modesty is usually seen as a restrictive concept that limits what a person can wear, thereby limiting a person’s ability to express themselves. Meanwhile, wearing immodest fashion is seen as exercising full freedom over one’s apparel, no matter how scandalous. Given that immodest clothing can also be very stylish and trendy, more and more people prefer to wear immodest clothing if it means they can also be stylish and trendy, instead of wearing modest clothing, which they believe to be the opposite.
However, what some people get wrong or misunderstand about modesty is that they think it means dressing in plain, boring, or baggy clothing that lacks style and beauty, all for the sake of covering up. This common misconception is the reason many people roll their eyes when they hear about modesty or modest apparel. π
Fashion and modesty are not mutually exclusive. In other words, you can dress modestly and still be fashionable. Dressing modestly doesn’t mean you have to always sacrifice style and beauty all for the sake of covering up. There are plenty of outfits out there that are conservative, yet stylish.
The same is true the other way around. For people who believe in modesty and modest apparel, sometimes they can be too quick to turn down certain clothing that they believe to be immodest, simply because it is trendy or popular. However, though immodest fashion is very popular, not everything immodest is popular. This means that some things that are trendy and stylish can still be modest and can be worn without violating the concept of modesty. In other words, modesty has a much bigger wardrobe than what some people think.
With that being said, subscribing to a modest lifestyle in terms of fashion can come with sacrifices. As I said previously, there is a lot of clothing out there that is very stylish and trendy but is also immodest. If you are trying to wear only modest fashion, then you will find that there are certain outfits and fashion styles that you like, but can’t wear because they are immodest.
For instance, countless times I have experienced going to the mall and browsing through online stores, where I saw outfits that I really liked and wanted because they were so cute and so my style, but I couldn’t buy them because they were immodest, and therefore not to my full taste.
In those same moments, sometimes I would look for a possible modest alternative to the immodest outfit. Though, oftentimes, I was left even more disappointed and frustrated when I couldn’t find one. At that point, I’ve often thought “It shouldn’t be a big deal if I still wear it. The length/cut isn’t so bad!”. But because I value modesty, I knew that I would feel uncomfortable wearing the outfit because it’s immodest, which would ultimately lead me to regret wearing it anyway.
The point is, if you are trying to live modestly and wear modest clothing (which I strongly encourage), know that you will most likely have to make sacrifices for outfits that you really want, but can’t wear without compromising your values. Again, however, don’t be discouraged by this, and know that there is stylish, trendy, and modest apparel out there for you.
Though, this begs a certain question that a lot of people have when they begin to explore modest apparel: what actually counts as modest apparel?
For those who find modest fashion distasteful, they will often answer this question with their own questions or sarcastic comments about what does or doesn’t constitute modest apparel. For example, when my peers in school were encouraged to wear modest apparel, they would respond similarly with the following comments:
“Oh, so am I supposed to hide my shoulders?”
“Oh my, are her ankles showing?! How immodest!”
“Her arms are showing! Is that scandalous?!”
“My shorts are an inch too short. Guess I’m immodest!”
“So I guess you always dress modestly. Does that mean I have to dress like you?”
No matter how seemingly mocking or silly those comments may have been, they are still grounded in the genuine question of what is considered modest apparel. You will find that when attempting to answer that question, especially through people’s opinions, is that everyone does not share the same standard of modesty and ideas of what constitutes modest apparel.
Let’s look at a common area where we see different standards of modesty: school dress codes. Some schools’ dress codes virtually allow you to wear what you want as long as what you are wearing isn’t terribly inappropriate (like a swimsuit). However, some schools, such as private schools, have stricter dress codes where some things that would be allowed in most other schools, would be restricted and considered immodest instead.
The point being is that even official organizations, such as schools and workplaces have different standards of modesty. However, modest fashion is something that is not only limited to school and business life but expands to daily life as well. Since there is no “dress code” for daily life, it can be hard to determine what is daily modest apparel because as I stated before, there are so many different standards of modesty and a variety of opinions from different people on what is considered modest apparel. This makes it very complex to figure out which standard of modesty is the correct and/or most consistent standard of modesty, which causes many people to reject modesty and modest fashion due to not really knowing what is modesty and modest clothing.
So since there are so many standards of modesty out there, what standard of modesty should we abide by? Whose standard of modesty is consistent for everyday life? We can find the answer to those questions by not looking to people for the answer, but by instead looking to the person Who created the concept of modesty in the first place: God.
God is the One who created the concept of modesty in the first place, and therefore set the absolute standard of modesty. However, God’s standard of modesty is different from ours because it is not solely a specific dress code or a list of clothing and outfits that He deems modest. God’s standard of modesty involves more than our apparel and choice of fashion. It primarily involves directions on how to live our lives and express ourselves.
God’s standard of modesty can be found within the following Scripture verses:
1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV) – “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Colossians 3:17 (ESV) – “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
According to these verses, modesty is about presenting yourself in a way that glorifies God and represents His glory. This applies to not only our clothing, but to all forms of expression, including all of our actions, words, and behaviors. So according to God’s standard, someone who is modest is someone who is presenting themselves in a way that glorifies God through every aspect of their lives. That is true modesty.
And so, when it comes to our apparel, according to God’s standard of modesty, what we wear should present ourselves in a way that glorifies God.
So now that we know what is true modesty and what constitutes modest apparel, the question is now what clothing helps us represent God’s glory?
Unfortunately, this question is hard to answer because, as I said before, God’s standard of modesty is not a specific list of clothing that He deems appropriate. Even amongst Christians, this question is heavily debated. For example, my mother used to be a part of a Pentecostal church where it was considered immodest for women to wear pants. However, a church of a different denomination that I attended didn’t have an issue with women wearing pants and didn’t consider that to be immodest.
So, since even Christians disagree on what apparel is modest, then the only way to determine what apparel helps us represent God’s glory is by asking God Himself. And yes, I do mean to literally ask Him what outfits or fashion styles He deems modest.
Many of you may think that sounds silly to basically ask God “Do you like this outfit?”. But I assure you that you won’t be wasting your time when you consult God with what you think might be small in His eyes. After all, God is the One who commands us to present ourselves the best way we can (by His glory), which means that He definitely cares about what outfits we use to present ourselves to the world.
And don’t worry, reader. Following God’s standard of modesty and consulting Him on your apparel doesn’t mean He will have you wear nothing but shirts that say “Jesus, My Rock”. If that’s your concern, then you will be surprised that God has a great fashion sense, and I am pretty sure that the literal Creator of the Universe will know what clothes will look great on you and at the same time will not violate His standard of modesty. God knows and cares about every detail about us (Psalm 37:23 NIV), from the outfits we wear to the total number of hairs on our heads (Luke 12:7 NIV). He is our Creator after all, and He knows that we all have different styles, tastes, and interests that He put in us, and He finds it important that we express and shine who we are through fashion (and everything else) while glorifying Him.
One of the primary ways God will help you determine what apparel is modest by His standard is by giving you a personal conviction that corresponds to His standard of modesty and holiness. Either through the guidance of the Holy Spirit or your own conscience, God will guide you on what clothing you should wear that will both express the true you and represent His glory.
In conclusion, reader, you need to know that modesty is not just about apparel or fashion. True modesty is about always us presenting ourselves in a way that glorifies God, through everything that we say and do. When it comes to our apparel, we should consult God on what clothing will best represent His glory, because He set the standard of modesty. I encourage you, reader, to value modesty within your heart and ask God today to give you a personal conviction that will help you live a modest life. Living a modest life is one of the things God calls us to do. And so we must take up our cross, and follow His commandments, for that is the best way we can live and be a light for God.
So, reader, what are your thoughts on modesty? Will you strive to live a life of modesty?

Welcome to today’s blog post about innocence, not ignorance.
Innocence and ignorance are two words that are often associated with one another. Many people think they are both the same because they share a similar meaning. However, both words are very different and complex in both what they mean, and how they work in one’s life. And therefore, what do you say, reader, we start off with defining both words? β¨
Firstly, what is innocence?
Innocence is the quality or state of being innocent. To be innocent means to be free of guilt, sin, moral wrong, and corruption, especially through lack of knowledge of evil in the world.
However, a person can still be innocent and be free of guilt, sin, moral wrong, and corruption, even with having knowledge of evil in the world.
As Jesus said it Himself in Mark 7:14-15 (NIV):
“Again Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, ‘Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.‘”
Therefore, reader, as long as you do not act upon your knowledge of evil, you are not corrupt, and you remain innocent. But keep in mind that act of sin can be defined mentally as well as physically.
Secondly, what is ignorance?
Ignorance is the quality or state of being ignorant. To be ignorant means to simply lack knowledge, awareness, or education about something.
When you are innocent, people will assume that you do not know some things. They will think you are ignorant, sheltered, or naive, even though innocence and ignorance are not the same.
For instance, allow me to give you an example from my experience.
Throughout middle school and high school, I was often labeled as a sheltered girl who was living in her own little bubble.
Because I did not want to engage in any inappropriate jokes and conversations among my classmates, I was considered to be ignorant, naive, or sheltered.
My peers were already very curious about certain things at a young age. Their curiosity came from consuming a lot of tv shows and music that contained ungodly themes like drugs, violence, profanity, etc.
From my discernment and observation, I noticed how my peers romanticized these ungodly things so much so that they became desensitized to them. It was like adding beautiful music to inappropriate lyrics or words. πΌ
Sometimes, when I was sitting at my desk doing my work, I would cover my ears or sing a little song to avoid listening to certain conversations.
Eventually, though, I stopped reacting this way, and instead, I tried to focus on my schoolwork.
The sad part is they knew that their conversations were inappropriate and it not only made me feel uncomfortable but my other peers as well.
Oftentimes, they would approach me with sarcasm in their voice and say, “Aww, sorry, Selene, you are too innocent to hear this.” Or, they would say, “We shouldnβt say this in front of Selene, guys. She is the innocent one in the class.” It seems as if they were being considerate and respectful, but in actuality, they were patronizing or mocking me.
Sadly, I realized that they started to think I was self-righteous, which then led them to talk about me negatively behind my back. When I would walk through the hallways, I would hear laughter among my peers, and I would stop and ask them, “What happened?” They would just disregard or ignore me.
But what disturbed me the most is when some of my friends started to engage in those inappropriate jokes and conversations. They thought this was the only way to be accepted. And as an excuse, my friend would come over to me, pat my shoulder, and say, “Youβre the pure one, Selene. Thatβs good. Stay pure. I lost my purity a long time ago.β

I remember just staring at her with a blank face, and I asked her, “Why are you saying that?” π
On one hand, I did not know whether to take her comment as a compliment, but on the other hand, I recognized it for what it was: she compromised what she knew to be inappropriate.
In addition to this, I remember being told by one of my peers that I am not going to survive in this world if I wasn’t comfortable talking about certain topics. Honestly, I thought that was a bit extreme!
Personally, I believe there is a time and place for everything. Some of these discussions involved stories about drugs, alcohol, or unnecessary drama, which in turn became a gossip column. Whether they were motivated by peer pressure or simple curiosity, I felt like my peers romanticized these things out of a hidden desire to experience for themselves what they discussed.
But if they had taken the time to get to know me, they would have realized that I understood what they were talking about all too well, as I have seen people I love fall prey to those very things that they discussed with glee.
So, I simply chose not to make light of something that I knew was potentially dangerous, and by danger, I mean could cause you to compromise your principles.
So, what they thought was cute, to me, it was equivalent to petting a lion that just finished eating. π¦
Just because the lion is not attacking, it does not mean it is not dangerous. I say, “just finished eating,” because the lion is temporarily satisfied, but that does not make it safe. The lion will be hungry again and will find its’ next prey to devour.
The Bible explains how the devil is like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour.
As 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Now, allow me to share what God has to say about ignorance in His Word:
Ephesians 4:17-19 (NIV), which gives instructions for Christian living: “So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.”
Therefore, reader, real ignorance is not knowing the harm in something that is harmful. When people start to become allured by evil things, they are deceived to think they are good. It separates them from God.
Ephesians 5:1-5 (NIV) says, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or course joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person – such a person is an idolater – has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
Many people think that gaining knowledge of evil in the world makes you no longer innocent. But, if you only define innocence as lack of knowledge of evil, then Jesus is the least innocent person in the world, because Jesus knew every evil in the world. However, when Jesus walked the earth as a man of flesh like us, surrounded by corruption, He did not indulge in evil or become corrupted by evil. Even when the devil tried to tempt Jesus three times when He was hungry and fatigue, He did not give into temptation. As human beings, we are not perfect, and none of us are innocent because we all have sinned. However, we can still choose to follow Jesus who is the perfect example of innocence. He creates in us a pure and innocent heart and mind. π€
It is inevitable that we will come to learn about the evils of this world. Because of this, we are expected to exercise wisdom and hold onto the Word of God to resist temptation, avoid indulging in evil, and remain innocent (or blameless) in the eyes of God. As Jesus said in Matthew 10:16 (ESV), βBehold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
And while you are trying to maintain your innocence in the midst of wolves, remember that, like me, you may be perceived as someone who is living in a bubble or sheltered. However, be strong and do not compromise and do not do what you know to be wrong and inappropriate. Sometimes, people will try to mock or corrupt your innocence, because they perceive it as self-righteousness or because it exposes their own corruption, similar to how light exposes that which is hidden in the dark.
As you try and remain in innocence, you will often feel left out from many things and may not be accepted by people who do not share the same values. For example, you may have not heard the latest song because of the crudeness of the lyrics, or you do not make or laugh along to certain jokes that are tainted by inappropriate innuendos. Whatever the case may be, do not believe you have to indulge in these things that may corrupt your innocence to be accepted by people, specifically those who are truly ignorant by believing or confusing evil things to be good.
In things of evil, be innocent as babies, but wise and mature as adults when it comes to things of God, as instructed in 1 Corinthians 14:20 (NIV).
I encourage you, reader, to not cave to peer pressure and indulge in the things of evil for the sake of acceptance. As I stated in my previous post, “The Narrow Path of Purity,” indulging in evil will only lead you down a path of corruption and self-destruction. I have seen this come to past with some of my peers who experienced exactly what they romanticized, and they only became more jaded, hurt, heartbroken, and corrupted in the end.
I gave this warning to my peers as well when I revealed to them that I was not oblivious, naive, or ignorant of the things they discussed, and I exposed their own ignorance of the evils by which they indulged in. Looking back to that experience, I realized God was using me as a light to help expose their shadows, not to shame them for their wrongdoings, but as a way to help them turn away from their wicked ways, so that through God’s guidance, they may pursue innocence instead of wickedness.
π€
So, reader, have you experienced something similar? Has your innocence been confused for ignorance? Have you confused innocence for ignorance?
Do you see the value of innocence? Is innocence valuable and important to you? Do you value your own innocence?
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you found this post to be valuable, and if it resonated with you, feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section down below. π€

Welcome to todayβs blog post about the narrow path of purity.
We are in spring, a season known for its new beginnings.
For one, students across the world are in the season of graduation and getting ready to move on to the next new chapter in their lives. π
If you are a student reading this, maybe you are about to graduate soon or you have already graduated. Or perhaps, you are just transitioning from one grade to another.
I want to encourage you, reader, not to let the new chapter in your life, whether you are starting middle school, high school, college, or pursuing a new career, take you down the wide path of impurity.
As it says in Matthew 7:13-14 (ESV), βEnter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.β
Therefore, reader, do not be influenced by people or things that can take you down the path of impurity.
Many temptations can come your way but always remember who is your strength to help you resist those temptations. You can still maintain the path of purity.
For example, if you are a student entering junior high, you might face many students in your grade level who are somewhat immature but some who are mature.
Kids love to impress others and can be easily influenced by one another. And sometimes, to get attention or appear mature, kids will say or do inappropriate things.
I encourage you not to compromise your values to impress someone, or as a true friend, make sure you stop others from compromising.
Let me give you some other examples of some temptations that might come your way as you begin the new chapter in your life:
Engaging in lying and gossiping, which can cause division.
Taking drugs and drinking alcohol. All it takes is for someone to introduce it to you, and you have to decide whether you are going to open that door or walk away because any drug or alcohol use can become an addiction and lead to death.
Worshipping other gods or engaging in certain cults or organizations that are demonically influenced and can stir you away from worshipping the true, living God, which is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Involving yourself with gangs, bullies, etc.
Feeling pressured to date someone just because everybody else is doing it. Oftentimes, we move too fast in a relationship before we actually get to know the person. This leads to potential regrets or being left heartbroken.
Watching inappropriate tv shows or listening to music that will make you become desensitized to violence, dirty jokes, profanity, etc.
All these things and more can affect both your heart and your mind.
We tend to allow Satan, friends, associates, and even family members to make us feel like we are missing out. When you choose not to participate in any of these impure activities, they will now label you as old-fashioned or unpopular.
Don’t fall into that mindset and be fooled by these temptations that others are trying to encourage you to do. These temptations will reveal how much of an immature follower you are and not a leader.
The path of purity is not wide, but it’s right. Purity is not popular nor is it easy, but a life of purity leads to joy and freedom in God’s presence. π€
So, reader, are you walking the path of purity? If so, how will you remain pure?
Psalm 119:9(NIV) says, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to Your Word.”
Therefore, reader, that’s your answer! Let Godβs Word be your guiding light while walking the path of purity. It will be your strength in times of temptation.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope that you found this post to be valuable, and if it resonated with you, feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section down below.
